Lignopure receives funding by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action to prove performance of tailored lignin particles in novel materials in the German consortial project LignoLight

Lignin is a very versatile raw material, which is extensively being studied in diverse application fields. However, higher value-applications are still lacking in the market, especially in our daily use. We want to change this and show, that lignin can be a functional and viable alternative raw material for products in our daily lives by smart technological solutions and particle design.

A national project consortium including Lignopure was granted funding by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) to explore the utilization of lignin for circular, modular lightweight construction and furniture, especially with focus on foams and leather alternatives. Lignopure’s core task is the further development and optimization of its lignin leather approach for furniture and fashion, especially focusing on the performance of novel lignin types with specifically designed particle properties.

Further development fields in the project are thermoplastic compounds and foams – also here, lignin particle properties are key for high material performance and a focus area of Lignopure. All lignin-based materials shall be used for the design of modular, lightweight, recyclable furniture that can be easily disassembled, transported, repaired and repurposed. These principals are further transferrable for example to fashion, automotive or even industrial application fields.
