FORFUN: Funded R&D Project Granted

Lignopure receives funding under the umbrella of the programme “Bioeconomy in the North” by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

FORFUN: From Forest to Functional Particles

The FORFUN project (“From Forest to Functional Particles”) brings together leading researchers in lignin particle technologies, cosmetic innovation, and food applications. Its goal is to develop advanced methods for producing micro- and colloidal particles from lignin and hemicelluloses, two of nature’s most abundant and versatile biopolymers. By unlocking their full potential, the project aims to create new bio-based materials for high-value life science applications.

Recognized for their exceptional chemical and functional properties, lignin and hemicelluloses open new possibilities for use in cosmetics, nutraceuticals, and other life science materials. These natural polymers can form stable colloidal systems, which serve as a foundation for high-performance and sustainable product development. With modern recovery and processing technologies, their utilization not only supports the circular bioeconomy but also delivers measurable performance advantages for novel materials.

At the heart of the FORFUN project lies the exploration of synergies between lignin and hemicelluloses. By combining their complementary characteristics, the research team aims to design innovative personal care and food products that are both effective and environmentally responsible—showcasing the future potential of forest-based ingredients in the life sciences.
